More about the CCIA
Improving the outlook for children with cancer through medical research Children's Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) was founded in May 1976 by a passionate group of parents and doctors who wanted to do something more to fight childhood cancer. Today, the Institute remains the only independent medical research institute in Australia devoted to research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer.
CCIA is dedicated to research that aims to improve the quality of life and survival rate of children with cancer by eliminating their suffering.
Each year in Australia more than 500 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed. Up until the 1960s, cancer in children was generally a fatal condition. Fortunately today seven out of every ten children diagnosed with cancer survive but three in ten do not make it. Freedom's support helps fund research to make a difference to the future lives of children diagnosed with cancer.
